- Bleeding from brushing or random bleeding
- Change in colour or the appearance of holes in the teeth
- Wounds in the mouth
- Swelling
- Teeth that move
- Change of place of one or more teeth in the mouth
- Puss or signs of infections
- Intense halitosis (bad breath)

The care-giver needs to contact the dentist immediately if they see one or more of the following symptoms in the mouth of the disabled / special needs patient:
